8 human foods that can harm your cat

Cats have a very different metabolism from humans, so some common human foods can be dangerously toxic to them.

1. Onion, garlic, shallots
Whether raw, cooked, or powdered – they can destroy red blood cells → severe anemia.

2. Chocolate
Contains theobromine, which cats can’t metabolize → leads to seizures, arrhythmias, or death.

3. Grapes & raisins
Even small amounts may cause acute kidney failure.

4. Caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea, energy drinks)
Cause shaking, shortness of breath, and rapid heartbeat.

5. Cooked bones or small sharp bones
Risk of choking or intestinal damage.

6. Cow’s milk
Most cats are lactose intolerant → can cause bloating and diarrhea.

7. Alcohol (wine, beer, etc.)
Even a tiny amount can cause coma or death.

8. Salty or fatty human food
Can lead to electrolyte imbalance and pancreatitis.

If your cat accidentally eats any of these, consult your vet immediately!
