VNF BULLETIN hashtag#0️⃣1️⃣8️⃣ – Better pond water quality, better production: Probiotic supporting sustainable aquaculture

A series of scientific insights on the potential of shrimp co-products.
A 60-day study tested the impact of adding 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘴 probiotic directly to the pond water used for whiteleg shrimp farming. Shrimps in the probiotic-supplemented environment showed significantly better growth, with a 25.6% increase in daily weight gain and a 30.6% increase in daily length gain, compared to the control group. These shrimps thrived in cleaner water, with a 73.9% reduction in suspended solids, and showed much lower levels of harmful 𝘝𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘰 bacteria (a 96.8% reduction). This treatment also improved oxygen levels and microbial balance. These findings suggest that introducing probiotic into the farming environment can enhance shrimp growth, reduce disease risk while minimizing the use of chemicals.
